Summer’s here and things are heating up in the Boston area—perfect weather for sitting outside with a new book! Mark your calendars for these exciting literary and publishing events in our area.

Poetry readings at the Salem Arts Festival

Downtown Salem, MA 01970

Take the rail or ferry to Salem the first weekend in June to experience this family-friendly celebration of the arts: painting, photography, sculpture, dance, music, writing, poetry, and more. Throughout the weekend, New England poets will read at the Coffeehouse Stage, and Saturday Evening there’s a poetry slam.

Local author event—plus vodka and kombucha tasting – Distilled Knowledge by Brian Hoefling

Porter Square Books, Cambridge Naturals, and Porter Square Wine and Spirits

Cocktail instructor Brian Hoefling visits Porter Square Books to answer questions and debunk myths about drinking, along with kombucha and vodka tastings at neighboring businesses. He’ll also be signing his book!

Local author event and ebook launch – Liberación/Liberasyon/Libertação/解放: Unapologetic Women of Color

The Boston-based visual platform We, Ceremony launches its first ebook featuring three women of color leaders in Boston. Enjoy food, beverages, and a fireside chat.

Reader Prom and Book Drive to benefit the Porter Square Books Foundation

Dress up, bring your favorite book as your “date,” and dump it at the door—it’ll be donated to the Y2Y Homeless Shelter in Harvard Square. Porter Square Books hosts this first-annual Reader Prom, and it sounds like an event not to be missed! Enjoy free soft drinks and snacks (cash bar), music, dancing, and games.
