ASSISTANT ACQUISITIONS EDITOR, MIT Press, to work with assigned acquisitions editors (AEs) to develop book lists in specialized subject areas and with authors and Press’ staff to facilitate effective review and consideration of project proposals and manuscripts, manuscript production, and marketing.  Will manage distinct and critical phases of a project’s development for as many as fifty to sixty projects per year and often act as the primary contact for projects and their authors once a contract is signed.  Primary responsibilities include creating records in title management system (FileMaker), managing the peer review process, sending contracts to authors for signature and coordinating advance payments, preparing manuscripts for production, and soliciting endorsements.  Additional responsibilities include coordinating assigned series produced by sources outside the Press; post contract signing project management; researching competing books, potential course adoptions, and areas of growth in emerging fields; developing financial projections; researching and preparing contracts and other documents; locating copyright holders of artwork for jackets and interior of books; reviewing final manuscripts to ensure that preparation guidelines have been followed; collaborating with other departments and acting as liaison to authors; and performing other duties as needed.

Job Requirements
REQUIRED:  high school diploma or its equivalent required, at least three years of communications experience, excellent project management, organizational, writing, and presentation skills, ability to prioritize and meet competing demands and deadlines, discretion and judgment with confidential information/issues, including reviewer identities, tax forms, etc., and knowledge of MS Office, e.g., Word and Excel.  PREFERRED:  B.S./B.A., Experience in publishing, advertising, or a creative agency, and Knowledge of FileMaker and LaTeX.  Job #18109-5
