Candlewick Press, a leading publisher of books for children located in Somerville, MA, seeks an experienced art administrator to join our talented team as Art Coordination Manager. Reporting to the Executive Creative Director, this position coordinates illustration rights throughout the book creation process: from soliciting new talent, communicating with known art talent, matching talent with manuscripts, and negotiating contracts. In addition, this position assists in organizing and maintaining the art department workload, as well as liaising with the foreign rights team on specific co-edition needs.

Responsibility for the initiation, implementation, and ongoing communication, of the following is included: Illustrator search process, contract negotiations, and art department workload organization. The Art Coordination Manager will work closely with all art, editorial and contract department staff, the foreign rights team, outside illustrators and illustration agents.

The successful candidate will possess a Bachelor of Arts degree or equivalent and 5 years’ experience in a publishing or literary agency setting. Contract negotiation experience is strongly preferred, as is an administrative background with an interest in the arts. An understanding of bookmaking, and an appreciation of illustration is welcome. Macintosh computer experience should include Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, and Adobe InDesign. Excellent written and verbal communication and organizational skills, the ability to prioritize and take initiative and successfully juggle multiple projects, are essential.
