Announcing the 2019 W. A. Dwiggins Award Recipient: Ginny Chang
Bookbuilders of Boston is thrilled to announce Ginny Chang as the recipient of the 2019 W. A. Dwiggins Award. Ginny will receive this award at the 62nd Annual New England Book Show on May 7, 2019 at Symphony Hall.
Ginny began her publishing career at Houghton Mifflin—back when they were at One Beacon Street—as an administrative associate in the College Department. Over the years she has worked in various departments in the company serving as a project manager; today, she is the Senior Project Manager overseeing adult trade reprints, a position she has held since 2007.
While the bulk of Ginny’s industry experience stems from her time at Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, she has also worked in production roles at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Little, Brown and Co., and Shambhala Publications.
Ginny’s service goes beyond the office, as demonstrated by her dedication to Bookbuilders of Boston. Her involvement spans over two decades; in addition to serving as a board member for many years, she has held many leadership positions, including 1st Vice President and Chairman of the Board (a legacy position that no longer exists on the board). Ginny has also been involved with coordinating numerous education forums and workshops, as well as being a co-chair for the organization’s (beloved) holiday party for many years.
Her dedication shines, however, through her work on the annual New England Book Show. She has served as a Show judge (most recently for this year’s Show) multiple times and worked on the Book Show catalog production in 1999 (#42) and 2000 (#43). She managed the catalog production in 2018 (#61), working with Book Show co-chairs Scott Meyers and Isabel Tran.
“Personally, I am incredibly grateful and always in awe of Ginny’s skill and grace with regard to anything related to book production,” said Iris Amelia Febres, president of Bookbuilders of Boston. “Her work with Rick Rawlins and the students of Lesley University, in designing the 61st Book Show catalog, was phenomenal. I am so proud that she’s our next Dwiggins Award recipient and we are lucky to have her continued involvement in Bookbuilders.”
Ginny became a board member of the Education Fund in 2015 and was appointed as Clerk in 2017. Since 2017, she has assisted with the annual scholarship reception, which is held to recognize the impressive accomplishments of students looking to pursue careers in publishing.
2015 Dwiggins Award recipient Scott Meyers said of his colleague Ginny: “I’ve worked with Ginny for 11 years, and we’ve known each other for over 20 years. I could not be more proud of her for winning this award.”
We are honored to award this year’s W. A. Dwiggins Award to Ginny Chang for her passion, creativity, and continued service to the Bookbuilders community. Please join us at the Book Show on Tuesday, May 7 to celebrate Ginny’s accomplishments.
