Senior Project Management Production Specialist

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Senior Project Management Production Specialist is accountable for the autonomous &, effective management of editorial production resources to ensure timely, efficient and cost effective design, editing and production of high priority and complex College Division products. The PM SPS will assume responsibility for developing production plans with authors and vendors. They will plan, budget and control the plant, freelance, full service, and any production related royalty costs
Assignment Scope

- Apply advanced knowledge of production editorial process and procedures
- Assignments are complex in nature minimal to no supervision.
- Resolves questions and problems and independently analyzes more complex issues.
- Makes recommendations for improvements to quality and or process.

- Applies advanced job and technical skills within assigned functional area. and learns company policies and procedures to complete tasks.
- Analyzes processes and makes recommendations for improvements to quality and or process

Job Duties

- Independently manages all aspects of production from start up to delivery of finished product. Complex products.
- Assists in developing production plan with authors and vendors.
- Builds and monitors project schedules and budgets.
- Analyzes manuscript for organization, copy editing level, completeness and acceptability for production.
- Evaluate art & prepares detailed logs
- Analyze design needs & prepare design materials for designer.
- Check all stages of proofs for text, design and layout and checks for adherence to manufacturing spec's.
- Works directly with authors on accuracy, scheduling and quality issues.
- Ensures permissions have been secured and fees have been paid.
- Determines what external services are required (copy editing, proof reading, indexing, permissions) and evaluates suppliers performance.
- Ensures all requirements for complete project management of product is being met.
- Assists in developing future products in conjunction with Editorial & Production team.

Impact of Errors

- Errors could impact part of department or assigned portion of project with potential for significant re-work and delays, and/or loss of sales if product is error ridden or delayed significantly.



Required Experience:

4-6 years experience with college text book publisher or equivalent. .
- Accelerated PC skills including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and general office equipment as dictated by each position.
- Undergraduate Degree or requisite experience. Or a combination of education, professional training and experience
-Strong language, grammar, and communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to manage/delegate multiple tasks.
- Strong interpersonal and business correspondence skills
- Ability to solve problems
-knowledge of manuscript acquisition process
-knowledge of editorial practices, rights, permissioning, budgeting and electronic production process.
-Proven written & communication skills.
