Short Description:
Experienced professional needed to manage the overall administrative, editorial, graphics, and production functions of the Economic Geography journal, and to produce a timely, high quality, and profitable journal.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties include, but are not limited to: coordinating work with editors and editorial board members to set tone, goals, and deliverables for the journal; establishing, maintaining, and communicating journals procedures to authors and reviewers; developing, updating, and maintaining editorial and style guide to ensure quality of content and design; overseeing production including scheduling, preparing and proofreading articles/book reviews; preparing table of contents, graphs, etc.; coordinating production and interacting effectively with Wiley-Blackwell contacts for subscriptions, online access, claims, permissions/reprints, marketing, and production; maintaining accurate spreadsheets/reports of manuscripts received, out to review, and in revision; uploading each issue to Economic Geography website, and maintaining website; handling email correspondence; working with editor to plan and maintain annual income/expense budget and coordinating annual editors dinner and editorial board luncheon meetings; compiling statistical data including annual report on progress of journal; hiring, training, and overseeing the work of part-time student assistants; overseeing office operations and performing standard office tasks such as ordering supplies, maintaining filing systems, photocopying, faxing, and other tasks as assigned.
Required Experience:
Applicants should a bachelors degree in English, communications, or relevant field and 3+ years of writing, editing, and/or publishing experience with journals, magazines, or other publications. Must have excellent proofreading and written communication skills; strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite; working knowledge of Adobe Illustrator, PhotoShop Elements, and Acrobat. This position requires a high level of professional interaction with individuals both within and outside of the Clark University community. Knowledge of Microsoft Access, Banner, and ScholarOne Manuscript System helpful, and copyediting experience preferred but not required.
Salary/Hours:
This is a part time position estimated at 25-32 hours/week, with a preferred regular work schedule of approximately 9am to 2pm Monday-Friday. There may be some flexibility for a 4-day work week. Starting salary expected to be $high $20s to mid $30s depending on experience with paid sick and vacation time, and use of campus facilities such as the fitness center.
