Leadership position in the Publishing Department.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Managing Editor Manager Location Dover, NH 100 Education Way Full Time/Part Time Full time Position Summary Leadership position in the Publishing Department: Oversee the operational activities of the managing editors and editorial team members, and help lead strategic management and process improvement within Publishing/Testing Services and across departments. Additional responsibilities include the following:
*Oversee managing editors supervision of staff, including staffing plans, selection, hiring, training and development, and ongoing feedback and reviews.
*Support managing editors as they work with internal clients to define the expectations and scope of Publishings work for ongoing contract work and special requests.
*Work with managing editors to assure contract and corporate editorial needs are met, including support of managing editors contract assignments and sharing resources across the group.
*Participate in the creation, improvement, and implementation of Publishing-wide tools for contract management, scheduling, and tracking.
*With Publishings management team, refine definitions of roles across Publishing and resulting task and workflow assignments.
*Train and mentor staff as appropriate; oversee professional development plans for staff.
*Collaborate with Testing Services managers to create and implement solutions to scheduling conflicts and obstacles to efficient workflow.
*Collaborating with other Testing Services managers and those from other departments, participate in planning, testing, documenting, and implementing new workflows and procedures for new deliverables and/or new technology tools.
*Meet with internal and external clients to ensure their needs are met.
*Design Publishings participation and create budgets as contributions to proposal efforts.
*Work closely with the assistant vice president on fiscal management of labor and ODC budgets.
*Work with the assistant vice president on ongoing evaluation and refinement of the Publishing Departments structure and overall staffing plans.
*Represent Publishing in interdepartmental and interdivisional initiatives.
*Make decisions or determine courses of action on assistant vice presidents behalf, as necessary.
*Participate in a leadership role to foster ongoing collaborative environment of process and technology improvement; continued mentoring and development of staff; and strategic change management within Publishing and Testing Services. Required Experience:
Qualifications
Bachelors degree, additional education or training in project management and supervision with a minimum of three years of experience working in a management role in a customized, high-turnaround educational assessment or publishing environment, including supervising editorial staff and coordinating work across production groups and with clients.
A minimum of six years of overall publishing experience, including writing, rewriting, and editing; working with authors, illustrators, vendors, and clients; and extensive experience with graphics, layout, and composition through press and printers proofs.
Experience managing multiple projects and functions as well as elaborate workflow processes.
Exposure to electronic workflow, document management, and computer-based testing technology.
